Day 5: Samegrelo Region-Paradise of Georgian Spices

After breakfast  we  will start our morning tour by visiting the local open-air peasants’ market where we will enjoy the multi-scented ambiance of different herbs, spices, sugar dusted dried fruits, seeds and a variety of chili powders.

Our main destination of the day is Samegrelo region-motherland of its signature cheese-Sulguni (sour, moderately-salty, semi-elastic type) and Adjika(hot and spicy sauce with red pepper, garlic and dried spices). Visiting a local farm nearby the town of Zugdidi we will take part in cooking process and prepare several authentic Megrelian dishes :Elarji (coarse cornmeal, corn flour and Sulguni cheese. ),Kharcho ( spicy beef soup with rice) and Rachuli Lobio (Pinto beans cooked with homemade smoked pork belly, onions, fresh herbs & Georgian spices).

On our way back, we visit another UNESCO World Heritage Site of West Georgia-Gelati Academy(12th c.)

Overnight in Kutaisi
